The country has not imposed any restrictions in the international heavy traffic.

Detailed information


Traffic ban: heavy goods vehicles regardless of total weight.


Time: All Sundays and public holidays as well as at the beginnings and endings of longer religious celebrations (e.g. in connection with Ramadan) from 07:00 to 10:00 and from 17:00 to 22:00.


Sunday is a weekly rest day. Holidays which fall on a Sunday are usually moved to another day. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Saturday is regarded as a public holiday.


Routes: various sections of main roads, e.g. on the Route E5 between Edirne and Istanbul (07:00 to 10:00) and in the opposite direction (17:00 to 22:00).


Exceptions: transport of livestock and fresh fruit and vegetables.


The transport of dangerous goods:


Local restrictions: traffic bans binding all heavy goods vehicles in all bigger cities from 07:00 to 10:00 and from 17:00 to 22:00 are in fact partly repealed; in practice however, it may happen that during the control the failure to observe the restrictions is “punished”.


Traffic ban on heavy goods vehicles of over 7t maximum permissible weight (MPW) in Istanbul on weekdays from 08:00 to 20:00 except for ring roads leading to the Bosphorus Bridge.


On the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge (FSM) which connects Europe and Asia there has been established a new restriction fo heavy goods vehicles. It is in effect everyday from 07:00 to 10:00 and from 16:00 to 22:00. Vehicles transporting dangerous goods may cross the Bridge from 02:00 to 06:00.


Only passenger and delivery cars are allowed to cross the Bosphorus Bridge. Heavy goods vehicles have to use the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge.
